The Truth Shall Set You Free

The Bible is filled with scriptures about lying and the consequences for people who do. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” is one of The Ten Commandments. Suffice it to say that based on the foundation of Christian beliefs, lying is a sin.

Joni Lamb and Doug Weiss of Daystar Television Network, the second-largest Christian broadcasting nonprofit company in the world, are complaining that they are being lied about on the internet. Let’s take a closer look at some of the claims to which they might be referring:

  • Questions surrounding Doug Weiss’ Ph.D.
  • Whether Doug Weiss made sexually explicit comments on Christian television & internet videos
  • Statements that the Lord is responsible for their marriage
  • Personal use of the Daystar jet
  • $400k donation to Doug Weiss’ nonprofit, Healing Time Ministries
  • If Jonathan and Suzy Lamb are truly on “sabbatical”
  • Whether Joni Lamb wrote her book, “Through the Storm”
  • Property recently bought and sold

Doctoring the Doctorate?

More than 20 years ago, Doug Weiss listed two doctorate degrees on his resume. The first was earned at California Coastal University, but he did not complete the required oral portion of his dissertation. That was his explanation in an interview for an article in the Colorado Springs Gazette on December 8, 2002.

The second Ph.D was from Monticello University, which authorities shut down for being a diploma mill. Doug Weiss told Gazette reporter Warren Epstein, “I don’t know why problems at my school should reflect on me.” He erased the Ph.D from his title and told his clients to call him “Just Doug” according to the article. He further stated in the interview that he would decide by the end of the year (2002) whether to pursue the title of “Dr. “ again.

Fast forward to Doug Weiss’ application for a psychologist license in Colorado. He filled out his application on July 11, 2005, and stated that he received his Ph.D in psychology from Northcentral University in January of 2004. He received his license on May 19, 2008. The LinkedIn profile for Douglas Weiss Ph.D states that he received his Doctor of Philosophy from Northcentral University in 2004, but on license renewal paperwork for the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) in Colorado, he filled in 2008 repeatedly as the date he earned a doctorate degree. In an attempt to clear up the confusion, an email was sent to Doug Weiss asking for the date he earned his Ph.D. It went unanswered.

His Healthcare Profile on the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) website has additional information:

  • Not board-certified
  • No practice specialty in which he is “appropriately trained and actively practicing.”
  • Disciplinary action was taken against him in 2010
  • Refusal of malpractice insurance in 2010 and 2021

True or False: Are there questions surrounding Doug Weiss’ Ph.D in Psychology that date back nearly 22 years? TRUE

Let’s Talk About Sex

It is fair to say Doug Weiss talks about sex a lot. The self-anointed porn and sex addiction expert has made a career out of explicit content sprinkled with scripture. One of his most controversial comments was on his current wife’s television show, “Joni Table Talk” which airs on Daystar. He emphatically stated that “Christ died so we could have great sex” at 20:14 into the May 2019 episode of Joni Table Talk titled “Sexless and Married.”

The “sexorcist” approach of blending psychology with the snippets of scripture is a recurring theme in the “gospel of Dr. Doug.” At a Promise Keepers event in Canada several years ago, he announced to the crowd of men that you can have a cursed penis or a blessed penis. He added, “If you’re gonna have a penis, you might as well have a blessed one, amen?”

He was a speaker at an ISOM (International School of Ministry) Conference. ISOM bills itself as the “The World’s Largest Video Bible School.” The video that was uploaded five years ago included the following theology from Dr. Doug: At 17:44, he told the audience, “Actually, it’s the first commandment if you read the Bible. What’s the first thing God commanded? Go forth and multiply. I think that’s a commandment we should keep, amen?” At 28:27, he said, “God is so pro-sex, He could run for office.” To Doug Weiss’ conclusions, what was spoken by God during creation in Genesis was a commandment. However, he ignores what God said in Genesis 1:3, “Let there be light” before He got down to the nitty-gritty of procreation. The Ten Commandments does address the topic of sex: “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

In a video produced a few months ago for the Sexual Wellness Centers of America, he boldly proclaimed, “You want your penis to be strong for the rest of your life. You want your vagina to be strong and also where it doesn’t go into that oval shape but stays in that circle shape so it feels more like that young vagina.” He interviewed Jeff Nuziard, Ph.D., who is the CEO of the Sexual Wellness Centers of America. The video promised a patented cure for erectile dysfunction and aging vaginas. If a client mentions Dr. Doug, they will get a discount on the treatment. Neither Doug Weiss nor Jeff Nuziard are medical doctors, and there is no evidence of professional credentials and/or training in the specialties of gynecology or urology.

Dr. Doug referred to his bride, Joni Lamb, as his lover several times on their Ministry Now program on Daystar. He reprimanded the audience for complaining but stopped doing it, which indicates viewers weren’t pleased.

True or False: Has Doug Weiss made statements about sex on television, at speaking events, and on videos that raised eyebrows? TRUE

The State of the Union

Joni Lamb and Dr. Doug Weiss entered the state of holy matrimony on June 10, 2023, with Jimmy Evans officiating. Joni wore a white low-cut, off-the-shoulder wedding dress as they recited their vows, including the promise to be lovers for life.

Marcus Lamb, the founder of Daystar, died from COVID-related symptoms in November of 2021. Joni told the television audience that she cried every night for six months and wondered if she was going to be single for the rest of her life. Doug Weiss divorced his wife in March of 2022.

Their engagement was announced on March 10, 2023, during an episode of Joni Table Talk that was shrouded in mystery about the identity of the lucky man. Pastor Jimmy Evans was a guest brought in to explain why the divorce was biblical even though there was no adultery involved. He didn’t reference a scripture that said it was allowed, rather he cited the “Four As” which included abandonment and abuse. He concluded that the divorced man Joni Lamb was engaged to had been emotionally abused for decades, so it was biblical for him to divorce his wife and marry Joni. That caused confusion and anger among those who take scripture literally because it contradicted what is in the Bible. In Matthew 9:9 this is what Jesus said about divorce: “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

About 20 minutes into the broadcast titled, “New Beginnings,” the fiancé was introduced. Doug Weiss jogged onto the set, said, “Hi baby!”, and gave Joni Lamb a smooch. He said the Lord opened this chapter out of the blue and that Jesus was in the middle of the relationship.

The couple went to New York, where Doug had a revelation. He said the Lord told him to do something very specific which included buying Joni a heart necklace from Tiffany’s and taking her to the Empire State Building for their first kiss. Doug said that Jesus had been part of the whole thing, that Jesus brought them together, and that it was His relationship that they were entering.

Joni echoed that sentiment. “Lord, You sent me this amazing man. I can’t believe You did that.”

She mentioned her decision to stay with Marcus Lamb after his affair was disclosed and said the Lord spoke to her about that, and told her, “Joni, I never forget obedience.” She said because she obeyed the Lord and forgave Marcus’ adultery, God worked a miracle. In fact, the wedding was broadcast on Daystar and titled, “Love’s Miracle.” The beaming couple probably did not expect the backlash.

The “New Beginnings” show was deleted from all platforms, and people were banned in droves on social media sites for questioning the scriptural basis for the marriage. The laws surrounding marriage in our country are broad, yet the irony is Daystar vigorously condemns same-sex marriages based on biblical principles, yet seemingly failed to apply scriptures about divorce and remarriage to the union of Doug Weiss and Joni Lamb.

True or False: Were scriptures in the Holy Bible twisted into a pretzel to justify the marriage?
TRUE

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Daystar owns a private jet and according to an investigation, it was liberally used during the couple’s courtship. Pastor Planes, an investigative project of the Trinity Foundation, tracks the use of ministry-owned jets. According to its report, since October 2022, the Daystar jet made 24 round-trip flights from Fort Worth, TX to Colorado Springs, CO. Doug Weiss has a marriage and sex/porn addiction practice, Heart to Heart Counseling Center in Colorado Springs, and has lived there since 2000. According to the Trinity Foundation’s investigation, there were 13 round-trip flights on Daystar’s jet from Ft. Worth to Destin, FL. The newlyweds frequently vacationed at the beach resort.

The jet is owned by the parent company of Daystar, Word of God Fellowship, which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and is tax-exempt.

True or False: Did Daystar’s jet make more than three dozen trips that appear to be personal and not ministry-related? TRUE

Show Me the Money!

The empire of Doug Weiss includes Healing Time Ministries, a nonprofit with the mission to “heal the world.”

That nonprofit with a lofty goal is soliciting donations across several platforms on social media. Healing Time Ministries is registered as a 501(c)3 in Colorado. The IRS requires nonprofits to file a Form 990 each year. Tax-exempt organizations have a few options depending on the amount of donations and assets they receive annually. Healing Time Ministries filed Form 990-N (e-Postcard) which is for small nonprofits whose gross receipts are less than $50,000.

Healing Time Ministries was formed in 2014, and each year through 2020, it filed Form 990-N. The IRS website did not show 990 filings in 2021 and 2022. There was a substantial donation to Healing Time Ministries in 2022 from The Carl and Edyth Lindner Foundation.

Public records show that a $400,000 donation was made to Healing Time Ministries in 2022 and reported on The Carl and Edyth Lindner Foundation’s Form 990. Another donation in the amount of $150,000 was made by the same foundation to the nonprofit in 2023. Again, it was not reported on Healing Time Ministries’ Form 990.

After multiple requests for information regarding Healing Time Ministries’ missing Form 990s, a woman who refused to identify herself by name but said she was with the organization, called from a blocked number and said they are taking the request for further information seriously and working with their new accountant to get answers.

After the conversation and according to the IRS website, the 2023 Form 990-N was filed by Lisa Weiss. She is currently listed as the principal officer of the organization for the first time since its inception in 2014. Before the 2023 filing, Doug Weiss was the principal officer.

The mystery woman from Healing Time Ministries never called back or emailed with an update, but the 2021 and 2022 990s were filed recently. Form 990-N (e-Postcard) was used for both of the missing years but did not answer questions about the $400,000 donation in 2022 that would seemingly disqualify Healing Time Ministries from using the 990-N, which is for gross receipts under $50,000.

Social media posts indicate all donations go to the production costs for the Healing Time show on Daystar. It is unclear whether Doug Weiss, the host and husband of Joni Lamb, president and CEO of Daystar, gets a discount for his broadcasts on her network.

True or False: Was there a $400,000 donation to Healing Time Ministries in 2022 and another $150,00 donation in 2023 that are not reflected in its required Form 990 filing with the IRS? TRUE

Family Feud?

Clearly, something is afoot behind the scenes and on the air at Daystar. The eldest son of Joni and Marcus Lamb is missing. Jonathan Lamb, his wife, Suzy, and their two children have vanished from the airwaves. Just like that, they were gone after the July 11, 2023, Ministry Now show in which Joni scolded Jonathan on live television for not mentioning Doug in his toss-back to them. The disappearance of favorites Jonathan and Suzy was questioned repeatedly as the days, weeks, and months went by without any sign of them. The official word from Daystar is that they were on “sabbatical.” Many comments that challenged the “sabbatical” narrative were deleted.

Suzy Lamb’s posts on Instagram hint at a much different story. They hint at something that goes beyond a son’s hurt feelings over his mom snapping at him on the network where viewers watched Jonathan grow into a man with a family of his own. The posts are getting more bold and while no one is specifically named in the fractured relationship, it isn’t hard to put the pieces together, which points to something very serious going on with the Lamb family.

Jonathan and Suzy Lamb are no longer in the video that opens the show, “Ministry Now.” Their own show, “The Green Room” has been scrubbed from Daystar. They are never mentioned, nor does Joni “Noni” Lamb talk about her two oldest grandchildren.

Suzy Lamb was asked on her Instagram account if she went to Doug and Joni’s wedding. She replied that they did because their then-pastor, the currently disgraced Robert Morris, told them they must submit and support Joni.

Whatever is brewing will eventually bubble over and spill out. In the meantime, it is probably safe to assume that the absence of Jonathan and Suzy Lamb is more than a “sabbatical.”

True or False: Did Daystar dismiss the disappearance of Jonathan and Suzy Lamb as a sabbatical and remove videos featuring the couple? TRUE

So It Shall Be Written, So It Shall Be Done

Joni Lamb’s new book is called, “Through the Storm: Courageous Faith in Turbulent Times.” Ghostwriter Max Davis posted on December 6, 2023, about his marathon writing session: “Wrote 18 hrs straight trying to meet deadline on Joni Lamb book. Brutal. But I believe anointed. Holy Spirit showed up. FYI, I’m her collaborator/ghostwriter.”

A ghostwriter, by definition, is someone who is hired to write someone’s book and let that person take the credit. It is not unusual for people who have a story to tell, but possibly don’t have writing skills to do it, to hire someone who does. It could be perceived as deceptive when Joni claims to have written the book when she hired Max Davis to do it.

True or False: Is it accurate to state that Joni Lamb did not actually write the book, “Through the Storm?” TRUE

Home Is Where the Heart Is

The Lamb/Weiss duo has several homes. The mansion that Joni and Marcus lived in, the new, larger mansion that is being constructed just down the street, a lake house in Granbury, TX, and a $1 million home that Doug shared with his longtime first wife, Lisa, in Colorado Springs, and a $2.9 million beachfront condo in Destin, FL, which the couple purchased last year. There has been a recent subtraction from Daystar’s real estate portfolio.

Poppy’s House, which was possibly one of the last dreams of Daystar’s founder Marcus Lamb, was sold in May. It was a sprawling property in Moravian Falls, North Carolina. Marcus Lamb’s vision was to create a safe haven for people in ministry.

Poppy’s House is still on Daystar’s recently rejuvenated website, which describes it as “This home is his dream fulfilled, representing one of his last planned projects before being promoted to Heaven.”

The asking price was $1,650,000. It sold on May 20, 2024, for $1,250,00 to a husband and wife who are real estate brokers. All of that information is public record, but what is not is why on June 12, 2024, donations were still being taken for Poppy’s House. An operator who answered the donation line during a Heart for the World fundraising re-run on Daystar, confirmed, after a brief hold, that contributions were still being accepted for Poppy’s House.

True or False: Was Marcus Lamb’s final dream project sold for $1.25 million? TRUE

Truth or Consequences

Saying something is a lie does not make it so. Facts are facts, and if they are to be disputed, it is better to be specific than to complain on worldwide television about lies. It is ironic that Joni Lamb and Doug Weiss have stated that “the internet lies” while Daystar Television Network, Joni Table Talk, Healing Time Ministries, Heart to Heart Counseling Center, etc., use nearly all available social media platforms on the internet.

“Haters” and critics are not the same. The latter questions what is being claimed and demands accountability.

Doug Weiss uses polygraphs in his marriage and porn/sex addiction counseling business to keep couples on the straight and narrow. Perhaps a lie detector test could sift out who is telling the truth and who isn’t, instead of leveling vague allegations on Christian television.

“The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.” – Proverbs 12:22
